About St.Mary's Medical Training College

The launching and dedication ceremony of St Mary’s Medical Training College was led by Rt. Rev. Bishop Sulumeti on 6th September 1994. The launching of the Private Pioneer School of Clinical Medicine in Kenya brought to reality the vision which had occupied the minds of the manager of Health Services in the Diocese of Kakamega for several years. The road was long and winding but its great the dream came true. In mid-1992 the Diocese of Kakamega through the management of St Mary’s Hospital Mumias. In an effort to improve health provision services to the community in the catchment area, getting full time health workers of this cadre of health workers i.e Clinical Officers in the hospital and other mission hospitals in the country thought of starting a training School.

The road to a School of Clinical Medicine reached its destination and St. Mary’s Medical Training College under the Diocese of Kakamega was delivered. Clinical Medicine built on a firm Christian foundation with the MOTTO: ‘OUTMONES OMNIBUS SERVIANT’ i .e Service to Humanity.

In 2021, the school diversified its programs by introduction of additional Medical Courses namely; Perioperative Theatre Technology, Community Health and Development and Mortuary Science. The three are TVET accredidate. The courses are offered at Certificate and Diploma levels. Clinical Officers, Theatre Technicians, Morticians and Community Health Workers/ Assistants that qualify from our institution can practice in Kenya, East and Central Africa. The holistic approach in their training makes them competent healthcare workers that meet the health needs of their clients in fulfillment of the healing process started by Jesus Christ. The Catholic Diocese of Kakamega contributes significantly to the improvement of health through primary healthcare.
